As an all-rounded musician, Begonia has performed with orchestras, ensembles, and as a soloist in numerous internationally renowned venues with conductors including Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev, Manfred Honneck, Krzysztof Urbański, Omir Meir Wellber, Antony Hermus and Benjamin Zander. She has also participated in a number of summer festivals including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany, International Summer Academy Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Eastern Music Festival in North Carolina, PyeongChang Music Festival in Korea, and masterclasses with acclaimed cellists Jian Wang, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Laurence Lesser, Troels Svane, Julian Lloyd Webber, Hans Jensen, Louise Hopkins, and Wolfgang Boettcher among many others.

She conducts Dios award winning choir Bel Suono which was selected to compete in The Big Sing Finale in Wellington in August, as well as the all-comers Cantiamo Chapel Choir, is the former musical director of the Tron Songsters Children’s Choir and is also backup conductor for Male Voices Waikato.
As a conductor Maria has participated in courses and masterclasses with conductors Rupert D’Cruze, Marc Taddei, Rodney Eichenberger, Dr Andre Thomas, Jerry Blackstone, Dr Rollo Dilworth and Dr Karen Grylls, and has studied singing with Te Oti Rakena and Ian Campbell.
She has sung in the Graduate Choir, Repertoire Choir, Tauranga Civic Choir, Hamilton Civic Choir, and plays in the Hamilton Pops Orchestra, Trust Waikato Symphony, Civic Players and for numerous school and community musical theatre productions.
Maria has also led choral workshops with the Southwell School Choir(s), HGHS Mana Wahine Choir, Te Kowhai School Choir and Bethlehem College and is one of the organisers of the annual Waikato/BOP Kids Sing. She is currently working as a Singing Mentor at 4 local Primary/Intermediate schools and is on the Association of Choral Directors as a committee member for the NZ Choral Federation.
Maria formed the Hamilton Festival Choir for in 2023 which performed “The Armed Man” with Hamilton City Brass at the Hamilton Arts Festival. Again, in 2024 with the addition of a Treble Choir, all three groups presented Christopher Tin’s “To Shiver the Sky” with soloists Emmanuel Fonoti-Fuimaono and Elaine Wogan.
Maria is in her third year of the Artist Development Programme for the Hamilton Civic Choir as a Conductor with Elise Bradley and sings in the Soprano section.
